An Update On Access To My Jobs-to-be-Done Content
It's Not Bad News!
For those of you don’t know me well, I’m a guy that gets up between 3AM and 4AM, 7 days a week. For the past year-and-a-half I’ve been monitoring content creators that are directly leading the discussion around AI, or those in various disciplines evaluating the impact of AI on their business models. The last point is the one I want all of you to be thinking about.
For me, it’s becoming clear that humans need to figure out where they can add value and let AI do its thing. For example, when Google’s Gemini can watch your screen and interact with with you on how-to get something done in a software application you’re using, the days of how-to videos, how-to courses, and technical support will swiftly come to a conclusion … in many cases.
Do you know how much time it takes - even with AI helpers - to create lead magnets, funnels and marketing campaigns? Too long! And there is no real benefit because…
You need 10s or 100s of thousands of digital content sales to make a buck
You need to be in front of people when they are in-the-market in order to promote more expensive services this way, and no shortcut methods will get you there.
I’m not saying it hasn’t been beneficial. Every week I get more people booking time to get to know me, and for me to get to know them and what drives their interest in Jobs-to-be-Done. Some of the conversations are merely that — getting to know each other. Others turn into opportunities; for both of us. This has been the primary way I have marketed myself, this blog included. I’ve done a few experiments, and I apologize for them 🤣.
A New Era
While I will continue to protect my IP from competitive use, I’ve decided that I am going to freely publish everything. No more capturing emails for lead magnets that result in me building monstrous drip-campaigns. It’s painful. No more funnels for courses, either!
Some of you have joined my 100% FREE JTBD Enthusiasts community, but most of you have not. It hasn’t been very communal, because I think most people were coming there looking for free things that I wasn’t offering. So, I’ve decided to make some changes that - if you haven’t - and get people who do join more engaged in furthering the development of innovation concepts.
Here’s how it’s going to work:
The Community is 100% Free: all you need to do is sign up and you’re in! Not even any membership questions
A New Engagement Point System: the system gives you points when others like your posts or comments. So, obviously you need to please the community members to earn them. I’ll jump and help out to get the ball rolling. Someone joined just yesterday and they’ve already earned….
Free Access to my Prompts: all it takes is 5 engagement points to unlock access to a private section containing my latest AI prompts for building JTBD Value Models. I have the same terms of use - you cannot commercialize them in any way. But, you can use them to pursue your own internal product or service building innovation initiatives.
Free Access to my Masterclass: all it takes is 20 engagement points to unlock access. You will immediately be sent instructions on how to access the course - and you will also find that the pay wall is removed in the Learning section of the community for quicker access. Can’t beat that! Just get 20 people to like something you’ve posted and its Free!
Free Access to several additional private sections: I’ve added some areas that require 65 engagement points where I will be conducting regular intimate workshops on various parts of the JTBD process. These will be interactive and scheduled as my availability permits. These are also spaces where you can expect to get specific answers to direct questions from either me, or others. If you’re working on a research project, I’m there to help as best I can. While it’s labeled Do it With You it’s really you doing it with some coaching from me. For those that can’t wait to collect engagement points, there’s a link in the community that will allow you to buy your way in.
Free weekly AMA Offices Hours for everyone: even if you haven’t gained access to the private DIWY sections, you can still register for and participate in weekly (schedule permitting) office hours where I will have a 90-minute google meeting running. At this time, they will be on Fridays from 12:00pm to 1:30pm Eastern Time. I will not be recording these AMAs.
Much of the paid content will become FREE shortly: I have a lot of content scattered around and I plan to consolidate it into the community either in resource areas or in the Learning area. I’ll probably make you earn some of it through engagement, but I have confidence you’ll all figure that out 😉. A lot of it will simply become free to access…as long as you’re a member of the community.
I’m still working on deeper content on the remaining parts of the process of performing rigorous JTBD research. All of that will be integrated into this new approach, as well. My goal is get people engaged in a topic that I know people have interest in. No more paid Masterclasses that are nothing more than lead magnets for 6-figure consulting projects. I’d like to change that, but I’ll need your help. And yes, I will offer paid services, but only for those that truly want or need it.
