Capabilities: Creating a Personalized Media Streaming Experience
Using ChatGPT to create logical models without a team
I recently had an interview and was given a scenario to respond to. Basically, they wanted to know what kinds of questions I would ask a stakeholder who was trying to develop a personalized streaming experience. I babbled on, but in the back of my head I was already planning to create a two things:
A Jobs-to-be-Done catalog that modeled a comprehensive set of customer needs, situations, contexts, etc. (coming soon?)
A capability maturity model with questionnaires and document requests built in
In my mind, both sides of the equation are needed. First, you need to understand what the needs and expectations are of consumers. What content do they want, what form factors do they prefer, when do the consume it, in what situations and contexts, etc. The list goes on. There is no market of one, and not everyone has the same needs. So, there’s a lot of work to be done there first.
Once you’ve prioritized and segmented (innovation segmentation) the consumer market, you then need to evaluate your current capabilities, capabilities needed to address consumer priorities, and your ability to deliver in various timeframes. As well as some other things that are not the focus of this post.
A Raw Capability Model
Everyone approaches this a little bit differently, so I’m not putting this into survey or workshop format. I’m trying to demonstrate that you can always be prepared for a new problem by leveraging the tools now available (you’ll also need to invest the time to develop instructions). Instead of asking clients to co-create capabilities models with you (which most probably don’t wanna do) you can have these enablers in your back pocket the first time you meet.
It doesn’t take weeks or months, it takes hours at best. Here’s an example of what you can do if you put your mind to it. 👇👇👇👇
Creating a Personalized Media Streaming Experience
Enjoy!
P.S. I was documenting activities and solution examples at each capability and then decided to discontinue that practice. Version 4 has limits and it was simply taking too long. One day I’ll automate this - probably when Version 4 becomes standard.
